Using zinc in the auto industry, especially through galvanized steel, can save fuel and reduce emissions. It offers high corrosion resistance for lightweight steel car bodies, ensuring vehicles are more durable and have longer warranties against rust. Hindustan Zinc has long been a key upstream partner to the automotive industry, offering a diverse portfolio of metals for various applications, including car bodies, batteries, chips, accessories, and crucially, corrosion-resistant components.

Hindustan Zinc CEO Arun Misra stated that their Zinc solutions are eco-friendly and cost-effective. Zinc has become an important material for a cleaner and more sustainable future.

Hindustan Zinc's portfolio showcased the Non-Ferrous Metals & Alloys portfolio that highlighted the growing importance of zinc galvanization and zinc die-casting alloys in the automotive sector.

Partnering with India’s auto companies will benefit the country's reserves by saving fuel and also impact positively on the environment by saving emissions. This is due to a high degree of corrosion resistance to lightweight steel bodies.

Hindustan Zinc also focuses on incorporating Lead and silver in the automobile industry. Lead is important for car batteries, parts, and radiation protection, ensuring reliability and safety. Silver improves conductivity and efficiency in electric cars, switches, and relays.

The company's extensive range of value-added zinc products is specifically designed for the Indian automotive sector, delivering cost-effective solutions that meet stringent performance, speed, and safety standards while maintaining the highest quality.

Metallic zinc is widely used in the auto industry for electro-galvanizing, as a component of brass, and in rolled sheets and strips for various fabricated parts, with running-board moulding being a prime example. It is also extensively used in producing numerous die-cast parts. The significant improvements in both rolled zinc alloys and zinc die-casting alloys have greatly increased interest in this white non-ferrous metal, whose favourable price and properties make it an economical choice without compromising quality.

Advancements have not only been made in the physical properties of various zinc alloys but attractive and durable plated finishes can now be easily achieved. The number of automotive parts made from zinc or zinc alloys is increasing annually.
